Karma Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies was established under Karma Group with the primary objective of supplying pharmaceutical and medical products to Bhutan’s healthcare sector. In 2010, the unit was formally carved out from Karma Tshongkhang in compliance with the regulatory requirements of the Drug Regulatory Authority.
Karma Group had accumulated many years of experience as an official agent and distributor of a wide range of medical products in the country. Establishing a dedicated pharmaceutical and medical supplies unit was therefore a strategic step that aligned the Group’s business direction with the broader priorities and evolving needs of the national healthcare system. This initiative sought to address emerging medical and public health challenges through a more focused and specialized approach.
The venture was largely inspired by the strong emphasis placed on free and accessible healthcare by Bhutan’s farsighted monarchs. While operating as a private enterprise, Karma Group embraced a strong social mandate, aspiring to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare system by ensuring a sustained and reliable supply of essential pharmaceutical and medical products. The Group’s existing experience, technical expertise, and established distribution capabilities positioned it well to support the health sector effectively.
Karma Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies focus on both human and veterinary healthcare products, including pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines, medical equipment and instruments, laboratory reagents, chemicals and glassware, medical consumables, and other related supplies.
